How To Train Like a Runway Model

Image
I found John Benton model fitness on Instagram. When I saw that he trained models I assumed that he lived in Los Angeles but after clicking through his profile I saw that he actually had a studio here in Dallas. I sent him a DM, which is so unlike me but he to my surprise responded right away and invited me to come to the studio to a class. So the next day I was up early heading to uptown Dallas not knowing what to expect. When I got there I walked A beautiful light filled studio with white washed walls. There were some tall model types finishing up their work out. I felt slightly intimidated, but once I started talking to John I realized how down to earth he is. He really made me feel comfortable and kicked my ass with a killer workout! What sets John aside from most other trainers is that he trains women very differently than the industry trend. He focuses on preparing girls to be professional models and to have the correct waist and hip measurements to fit in with the industry st

THE YOGA JUNGLE

Image
Do you remember last winter when I wrote that post about creating an outdoor yoga space?  Do you?... It was my last post and a whole lot has grown since then.  I couldn't have manifested a more perfect space if I tried! I did get a little lost in the journey though.  I feel like that is the best part of life anyway. I started a new Instagram account @plantifulgoddess to keep track of the garden's progress in my own weird way.  One thing led to another and I kinda forgot all about my intention for the deck in the first place. Alas, it has come full circle though.  I am launching a new studio on the deck, AKA The YOGA JUNGLE on ONLY FANS!!!!! I am going to be posting my yoga classes that I film exclusively on there from here on out, and just like at a regular studio,  you can take any class on my page for one subscription price.  If you are subscribed you also have access to me for any yoga questions, fitness and nutrition guidance, or to book virtual private class

GETTING IN TRIBAL // Tribal Jungle Goddess Costume

Image
Haapppyy October!!!!!  October is my birthday month, and just an all around fun time of year here. It is still hot enough to feel like summer and the plants here in Eden are still growing strong.  But my favorite thing about October is HALLOWEEN!   I have always been in love with coming up with costumes out of whatever I can find lying around.  It is one of my strange talents!  It is acceptable to go just about anywhere in a costume this time of year.  If anyone asks, you are just on your way to a Halloween party.  Oh, at 9:00 am?  It's a brunch! Whether you start planning your costume on November 1 or October 30, you can rock this tribal goddess costume with minimal planning.  You are likely to have some of this stuff on hand, if not you could definitely find it at a thrift store. I used a tribal print scarf that is triangle shaped to tie as a top.  You can certainly make it cover more by tying it under the arms vs. the around the neck.

MINI POND TOUR // MY PLANTS AND FISH PICKS FOR A CONTAINER WATER GARDEN

Image
I have always loved Goldfish.  I remember going to my doctor's office as a little girl, sitting in front of the fish tank, mesmerized by their whispy tails. Despite having never been to Asia, I would say my garden has a heavy influence of Bali and a dash of Japanese zen.  Whenever I picture exotic gardens, fish ponds are one of the first things that comes to mind.  Not everyone has room or the desire to have an extensive pond system running through the backyard though.  I certainly don't want to deal with the maintenence #lazylibra. I must have watched 10 Youtube tutorials and even checked out a book from my local library on pond building before deciding that I didn't want to do ANY of that.  I just wanted a little water garden where I could have a couple of Goldfish! Finally I found the perfect solution on Pinterest.  It is called an Aquascape Patio Pond.  I bought it on Amazon and you can find them in a variety of shapes and sizes.  This one is  a 32 inch

LANDSCAPING AROUND AN ABOVE GROUND POOL

Image
Hi there!  Today I wanted to share all of the deets on one of my favorite spots to hang out in the urban jungle.  What would a tropical paradise be without a little watering hole anways (that's Texan slang for a place to get wet and cool off when it's hotter than hell)? I knew I had to have a little place to be in the water to actually be able to enjoy being in the garden in the summer.  I toyed around with lots of different shapes and sizes, and even looked into the oh so trendy stock tank pool idea before I eventually settled upon this  Bestway above ground pool .  I purchased the pool and filter off of Amazon.  It is around 160x85 inches and 32 inches deep.  Just big enough for a couple of people to float around in. The pump is an Intex pump.   It is basically where I have wasted the majority of the summer. Although I would love to build an inground pool some day, we had just fixed an expensive plumbing leak under our house (older houses are the best, right?!

FOUR PLANTS THAT WILL TRANSFORM ANY GARDEN INTO A TROPICAL PARADISE

I can’t believe that September is halfway over.  It certainly still feels like summer here in the urban jungle. Although summer is almost over, I wanted to break down my must have plants for creating a tropical feel.  If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you may be approaching Spring planting season! When I was planting out the Urban Jungle, the number one thing I considered is how I wanted the space to feel. I wanted a space that draws you in with dramatic foliage.  I wanted there to be a sensuality to it.   I grew up with a dad and grandfather who were both a little wacky about their elephant ears,, so naturally I followed in their footsteps.  I planted giant COLOCASIA I put about 30 bulbs that I bought at Home Depot all along the north facing foundation of my house.  It is a location that doesn't get a lot of sun.  Elephant ears need shade.  They also need a ton of water, so take that into consideration if you live in a place that is on the dr

LOCO for WEST PALM BEACH'S COCONUT VILLA

Image
This summer I went on a trip to West Palm Beach and stayed in an Airbnb, aptly named the "Coconut Villa."  It was the perfect little spot to live the plantasy life for a few days.  I spent afternoons hanging out with fronds by the pool. I love seeking out places to stay that have inspiring gardens.  This was a newer house in an older neighborhood with palm tree lined streets, and an easy bike ride to the best Cuban restraunt in town.  The Bougainvillia and foxtail palms were my favorite part of this garden, and will only get better in the years to come!
